They came to me as I lay in bed turning,

Big belly in the way and my heart burning.

Semi-conscious was I when my eyes saw a vision,

As clear as the day and detailed with precision.

Two smiling faces of a woman and a man,

Whose expressions foretold of some great plan.

An aura of watercolours framed their faces,

Reminding me of their sanctified graces.

I remember I smiled and was not sad like before,

When my parents would knock on my imagination's door.

They brought me a message, and the next morning I'd think,

"I better start painting this baby's room pink!"

Eighteen years later, your birthday is feted,

And a milestone is added to your credit.

In a reversal of protocol, I'd like to thank you,

For the gifts you have given and my gratitude that's due.

I thank you for being my life skills trainer,

Proving unconditional love is a no-brainer.

In my mind and my body, you make sure I am well,

I thank you for introducing me to "Adele".

You're the devil in Prada and Mother Teresa in one,

But your style and grace are second to none.

Your creativity and visions leave me standing in awe,

Your humour and perception I always will laud.

There's a presence about you that remains when you're gone,

Like the memory of a midsummer's ethereal dawn.

In my wildest dreams, I would have never conceived,

The joy and the happiness you have given to me.
